Why do the character models in this look *horrible* at 4K DSR compared to the ones in Halo 1 at 4K DSR?

All the male characters look almost nightmarishly deformed. The women are a bit better but still... weird. Whereas in Halo 1 they're just kinda "normally" low poly.

The cutscenes look distractingly bad in this, too, especially the ones focusing on Covenant characters.

Fix your in-game resolution

Windowed mode, then click on edge of game window and stretch to your resolution, then while in main menu press f7 or f8 for borderless windowed mode. H2v is stock not custom and hasn't been patched ever do high resolutions, by MS, well it's had some resolution patches but not for 4k etc

It's just the character models, though. I'm running in fullscreen on a 1080p monitor with forced "internal 4K", and the game objectively *is* rendering at 3840x2160 internally (F11 screenshots come out at that resolution for example). *Most* of the game looks fantastic.

How about you show a screenshot so we know what you're dealing with.

Not close up they don't. It even shows a bit in your screenshot, at least for the marine. Compare what any of the male characters faces look like, in cutscenes especially, to what Captain Keyes face looked like in cutscenes in the first game and you'll know exactly what I mean.

After playing more though, I think the poly count on the character models was just generally reduced from the first game, probably to allow them to improve the graphics in other areas and still run well on the original Xbox. So there's likely nothing that can be done about it.

May I ask what LOD settings are you playing with? Try setting the LOD to cinematic.
