Questions about editing weapon projectile and impact damage tags.

I want to modify the Plasma Pistol in the campaign so that its overcharge functions the way it did in Combat Evolved, i.e. performing damage to health in addition to the EMP effect. I know that by default the impact damage of the Overcharge Bolt is emp, but I would like to know if it is possible to change this in a manner that does not fuck up the map.

Has anyone experimented with this in the past, and if so, does anyone have any advice for me? I've already made sure to create a backup of the campaign map I wish to use for this experiment, but I'm simply worried that the changes I make will fuck up the map so that I won't be able to re-edit the newly modded map file again after I'm done.

In other words, I don't want to have to start from scratch with another copy of the campaign map if I have to return the weapon to its default values.
