Project Cartographer Terms of Service

Effective:December 2016

Last Updated:April 2018

Halo 2 Vista © Microsoft Corporation. Project Cartographer was created under Microsoft's "Game Content Usage Rules" using assets from Halo 2 for Windows Vista, and it is not endorsed by or affiliated with Microsoft or Bungie.

On October 9, 2012, Microsoft ended support for Halo 2 for Windows Vista and subsequently the Games for Windows Live Marketplace in August 2013, classifying Halo 2 Vista as “abandonware”. Under the Library of Congress 2015 DMCA 1201 Rules, Project Cartographer is a mod that falls under the exemption of Proposed Class 23: Abandoned Software – Video Games Requiring Server Communication

Project Cartographer is a non for profit multiplayer mod which introduces an alternative to a now unsupported Xbox Live for Halo 2 Vista, allowing players to simply connect to each other over the LAN menus without the use of any tunneling services such as (Tunngle, Hamachi, Evolve, etc).

1. Privacy

Your privacy is very important to us. By playing Halo 2 Vista using Project Cartographer, we reserve the right to collect specific information between your game client and our servers. This information may include, but is not limited to, your IP address, location, and data specific to your computer. Additionally, this information may be accessed at any time by Project Cartographer Developers and Staff. Your information will be stored on a secure and encrypted server only accessible by Project Cartographer Developers and Staff.

If you are a registered user of our Services, we provide you with tools to recover your account in the case that you have forgotten your password or you believe it has been compromised. Administrators may also choose to disable, delete, or modify your account’s information at any time if they believe such action is necessary. Furthermore, you may also choose to disable your account in the case you no longer wish to use our Service. After your account has been disabled it will be deleted within the following 24 months of that date. During this period it may still be possible to recover your account.

2. Code of Conduct

By agreeing to these Terms, you’re agreeing that, when using our services, you will follow these rules:

  1. Do not mod or hack (outlined in 3. Cheating) while playing Project Cartographer
  2. Do not switch to teams other than Red or Blue when playing team gametypes on Project Cartographer servers unless the gametype contains the name “Multi-Team” or specified by the server administrator
  3. Do not share configuration files and/or login tokens
  4. Do not create multiple accounts after being banned (read the Alias Clause under 3. Cheating)
  5. Do not use unsupported or unofficial .dll files unless indicated by Project Cartographer Developers or Staff
  6. Do not distribute unsupported or unofficial .dll files under any circumstances
  7. Do not engage in any illegal activity

If you violate these terms at any time, we may kick you from the game server or ban you from Project Cartographer entirely. We may also ban you from our official Discord server or we may inform the proper law enforcement authorities. Project Cartographer reserves the right to deny your access to our service at any time without notice

3. Code of Conduct

Project Cartographer strictly prohibits any form of cheating or hacking in our game servers. We consider cheating to include the use of:

  1. Name Hacks
  2. Aimbotting
  3. Macros
  4. Flyhacking
  5. Rapid Fire
  6. Speed Hacking
  7. Projectile Hacks
  8. Aim Assist on the Mouse and Keyboard
  9. Texture Modifications
  10. Wall Hacks
  11. Jump Hacks
  12. Modifying In-Game Values
  13. Cheat Engine (Memory Editing)

We may edit or add to this list as we deem necessary and we reserve the right to determine what we consider to be "cheating" at any time. If you are unsure if your actions are considered "cheating", you may come into our official Discord server and ask a Project Cartographer staff member before you play using our service.

If you are found using one or more of these “cheats”, you will be in violation of Rule (i) of our Code of Conduct, resulting in a cheaters ban from Project Cartographer. A cheaters ban is when an account is limited to a distinct network isolated from the main user base.

Cheating and hacking is only permitted in the following situations:

  1. You host a custom game (public or private) where you clearly specify the use of cheats by creating a gametype name containing any of the following words: “Cheats”, “Glitching”, “Hacking”, or “Modding”. You may change the word tenses but the base word must be present in the gametype name.
  2. You join a custom game where cheating is permitted through situation (i).
  3. When the server owner explicitly allows it by clearly stating the allowed timeframe. This is either through situation (i) or via global server messages in frequent intervals to inform new players that join.

We utilise a variable strike system depending on the violation committed. Name hacking or impersonating or hacking our Service to avoid detection or bypass bans/restrictions will result in an instant project-wide permanent ban. In the case should a user be caught for cheating in a manner outlined in the Cheating section, we will utilise a 2-strike system. The first violation will result in a cheaters ban (see above) from our main service unless appealed on our official forums in which case the ban will be reduced to anywhere between 7 to 60 days. The second violation will result in a cheaters ban from Project Cartographer.

Alias Clause

Multiple accounts per user are allowed. However, attempting to create accounts after you have been banned from Project Cartographer will be considered “cheating” and will result in an increase in your ban period and/or a permanent ban.

4. Warranties

Project Cartographer is not a finished product and is still in an alpha state.
