Personally I use the Steam Controller whenever i'm not using the obvious keyboard and mouse, I find it works fairly well in Halo 2 and others. I set the touchpad and gyro to mouse, sensitivity up maybe 5 notches with hold(normal) crouch and jump on the grips and toggle crouch on LS and it feels...- SakridLyfe

Does your macbook have bluetooth? I know people have connected DS4 controllers to Windows PCs via bluetooth.
